About You / What We Are Looking For 
Coquitlam is at an exciting time in its transportation development, with both residential as well as commercial development providing exciting challenges and opportunities. We are seeking to add a temporary member to our Traffic Operations team. You will be one of three Technologists contributing to the efficient and safe functioning of transportation systems. You will work in tandem with engineers and other professionals to implement transportation plans, address community needs, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
 
You will be responsible for supervising and/or conducting traffic studies in response to requests from the public and for reviewing development plans and traffic consultants’ submissions. The position will also coordinate the design review and construction inspection of streetlights and traffic signals. You will also be managing Capital Projects related to upgrades to the City’s Traffic Signal System.
 
This is a temporary role to cover a leave of absence. It is expected to be two to twelve months in duration. Although, this is a full-time role, we may consider candidates interested in working lesser hours to cover this absence through an auxiliary, part-time opportunity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Diploma from a recognized technical institute in an appropriate discipline (Civil, Transportation Engineering, or Electrical/Electronics )
  • Work experience with emphasis in the traffic /transportation field
  • Certification or eligibility for certification as an Applied Science Technologist within the Province of BC
  • Valid class 5 BC Driver’s licence or an equivalent and a clean driver’s abstract

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Synchro and Sim Traffic
  • Considerable knowledge of traffic signal operations and principals
  • Knowledge of municipal traffic operations

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $44.20 – $52.20. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
