Job Summary

The Luddy School at IU Indianapolis seeks an experienced videographer to join our busy communications and marketing team. The Videographer works under the direction of the Assistant Director of Communications and Marketing to plan, shoot, edit, make post-production changes and enhancements, and upload and disseminate video assets in support of the needs of the (school, by way of) communications and marketing team. The videographer generates creative visual content through video production, still photography, editing, graphic creation, motion graphics, coloring, and post-production work.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Captures material for the Luddy-Indianapolis School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering web site and other communication projects in support of a variety of school initiatives. Assignments include video feature production, event still photography, creation of graphics for marketing and digital signage, and media asset management.
  • Manages the school’s media inventory and multimedia production labs, and acts as a technology consultant and resource for faculty and staff on multimedia needs.
  • Researches, conceptualizes, gathers, edits, and produces still, video, and audio content for print and web environments in support of the school.
  • Assists the Assistant Director to advise on resources to accomplish assignment objectives.
  • Gathers library of stock B-roll footage, still photography, and graphics for Luddy-Indianapolis (and Luddy-Bloomington communications office as needed).
  • Assists in conceptualizing, developing, and designing assets as related to marketing and branding, development, and programs of the school in support of faculty and staff marketing and communication objectives in recruitment, retention, school promotional events, branding, and development.
  • Manages part-time student hourly assistants in developing, producing, editing, and finishing compelling multimedia work including video, motion graphics, special effects, photography, and audio.
  • Collaborates with and provides consultation to faculty, staff, and students on multimedia projects and technologies. Projects include consultation with students on professional video editing and coloring software and consultation and support for faculty with grants that include video production needs.

General Responsibilities

  • Identifies basic, complex, special, and/or urgent videography projects for use in a variety of marketing and communications needs; sets timelines, determines desired video composition, performs necessary interviews and/or research, and selects and adjusts subjects, equipment, and lighting to achieve desired artistic effects.
  • Captures and edits video footage using various equipment and software including Adobe Creative Suite, adjusting to formatting specifications of marketing and communications project needs, audiences, and platforms; may delegate basic editing tasks to Videography Assistant(s).
  • Regularly consults with marketing and communications staff and other key stakeholders to determine project needs and ensure video elements align with strategy and objectives.
  • Maintains filming equipment, including editing lab equipment, lenses, lights, and cameras, inventory; performs basic and more complex equipment repairs.
  • Seeks input from peers and stakeholders on a variety of videography projects to evaluate effectiveness of different aesthetics, lighting, images, etc.
  • May provide organizational training on videography methodology and strategy.
  • May provide guidance to Videography Assistants or lower-level Videographers.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in video production, art, or related field

Working Conditions / Demands

This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between 1 day remote and 4 days in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
