Description

Emory College of Arts and Sciences is seeking a highly skilled and passionate Senior Web Developer to join our Communications team. This individual will be responsible for advancing our web presence, with a particular focus on usability and accessibility, using CMS architecture, such as WordPress, Drupal, or Cascade Server. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in web development and a strong commitment to creating inclusive online experiences.

Designs and creates intuitive and applicable user experiences through information architecture, graphic design and user interface development for websites and applications. Conducts research through analysis of current behaviors and future needs, interviewing key stakeholders and target audiences, and studying leading practices and emerging trends. Identifies and documents user and technical requirements. Develops production quality mock-ups and clickable prototypes as well as production ready graphics, interfaces, templates, and sites. Develops final production XHTML and CSS code and web templates and implements solutions within publishing environments. Consults with stakeholders and users to determine cost effective and high quality solutions and advises on the feasibility and direction for website initiatives. Evaluates the usability of designs through usability testing and personal expertise. May act as a liaison between the department/division and contractors to ensure the expected level of quality with deliverables. Performs related responsibilities as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contributes to a wide variety of projects and platforms while supporting the development and implementation of a digital communications strategy for College managed websites.
  • Collaborates with the central Emory Communications & Marketing team to ensure alignment with university platforms, protocols and standards.
  • Designs and creates intuitive and applicable user experiences through information architecture, graphic design and user interface development for websites and applications.
  • Evaluates the usability of designs through usability testing and personal expertise.
  • Develops production quality mockups and clickable prototypes as well as production-ready graphics,
    interfaces, templates, and sites.
  • Develops final production XHTML and CSS code and web templates and implements solutions within
    publishing environments.
  • Ensure all web applications adhere to accessibility standards (WCAG) and provide an exceptional user
    experience.
  • Perform regular audits of web content to ensure compliance with accessibility guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to web development.
  • Stay updated on the latest web development trends and technologies.
  • Conduct code reviews to ensure adherence to best practices.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in computer science, information technology specialty, human computer interaction, education, communications, or related fields.
  • 5+ years of experience in web development, with substantial experience in Drupal CMS.
  • Expertise in PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and MySQL.
  • Strong understanding of web usability and accessibility (WCAG, ARIA).
  • Experience with Drupal 8/9/10 and custom module and theme development.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills and project management skills
  • Working familiarity with Microsoft Office suite applications Adobe Creative Suite, Canva and other common office systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in computer science, information technology specialty, human computer interaction, education, communications, or related fields.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Knowledge of other content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Cascade).
  • Familiarity with front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js).
  • Proficiency in version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Certification in Drupal development or related areas.
  • Understanding of user experience (UX) design principles.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
