Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture are seeking Weightroom Attendants to join the team. Our ideal applicant is organized, knowledgeable, and dependable. Working under the direction of the Fitness Programmer, Attendants are responsible for monitoring the fitness studio and maintaining a safe environment for our patrons. Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture offers an additional 14% in pay per hour in lieu of benefits for auxiliary employees, a staff facility pass that provides access to our weightroom, pool, skating rink, and drop-in fitness classes (granted with a regularly scheduled weekly shift). RESPONSIBILITES

• Supervise patrons using the weightroom.
• Maintain a safe environment for patrons using the weightroom.
• Assist and answer patron’s questions.
• Clean/sanitize equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous fitness experience in a similar environment.
• Customer service experience.
• Must be a registered BCRPA Fitness Leader in group fitness, weight training, or equivalent.
• Current Emergency First Aid and CPR-C.
• Provision of a current Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (Note: This is the applicant’s financial responsibility to obtain this).

 
HOURS OF WORK Thursdays 8:00-10:30pm and Sundays 7:00-10:30pm and additional subbing/Personal Training hours are available.
Please Note: Hours may vary based upon operational requirements.

LOCATION(S) Oak Bay Recreation Centre
 
RATE Attendant Rate: $ ($20.99 per hour plus $2.94 per hour in lieu of benefits – 2024 rates)
Personal Training Rate: $40.48 ($35.75 per hour plus $4.73 per hour in lieu of benefits – 2024 rates)

STATUS Auxiliary (This is a union position)
 
BENEFITS

• 14% in lieu of benefits per hour
• Staff Membership to drop-in the weightroom, fitness classes, skating, and pool (applicable to employees with 1 or more set shifts per week)

The District has previously enacted a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy to safeguard the wellbeing of all employees. This policy may be reinstated based on the level of assessed risk to District employees or Provincial Health Order requirements.
