POSITION OVERVIEW
Embark on a rewarding career as a temporary Buyer in the thriving city of Maple Ridge. In this pivotal role, you will engage in essential purchasing activities aimed at procuring a diverse range of goods and services to fulfill the requirements of various municipal departments.

As a driven and detail-oriented Buyer, you will be responsible for procurement activities and supporting municipal departments with their procurement requirements. The Buyer will be responsible for procuring a wide range of goods and services, processing purchase requests, preparing and issuing competitive bid documents such as tenders, request for proposals and quotations, receiving and evaluating bid submissions, working with user departments to develop bid specifications and evaluation criteria, making sound award recommendations, and working with team members across departments of the City of Maple Ridge.

This role requires demonstration of considerable independent judgement, provide advice on procurement, interpret and explain policies, procedures, legal and ethical concerns, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by completion of Supply Chain Canada courses leading to the Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation plus sound related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Considerable knowledge of the types, quantities, sources and prices of commodities and services purchased.
  • Sound knowledge of municipal purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Sound knowledge of market conditions, price trends and delivery practices.
  • Sound knowledge of the functions and requirements of the various municipal departments served.
  • Sound knowledge of contract law, negotiation and corporate insurance.
  • Ability to evaluate quality and price elements and determine suitability of goods and services.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to prepare specifications, contracts and bid documents for a variety of products and services and to monitor and administer such contracts.
  • Sound knowledge of software applications used in the work. (MS Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES
Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia.

HOURS OF WORK
8:00 am to 4:00 pm, 70 hours bi-weekly

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This is a temporary full-time position for approximately twelve (12) months, with an anticipated duration until March 21, 2025. This term may be shortened or extended due to circumstances unforeseen at the time of posting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Public sector procurement experience will be an asset.
