Clerk III (Engineering Services)

(Permanent, Full-Time)

The Engineering Services Department is seeking a permanent, full-time Clerk III to perform a variety of customer service and clerical support duties. We are seeking someone who is reliable, takes initiative and enjoys coming to work to support a busy department.

This position will be responsible for:

  • providing clerical support services, to the public and to District departments in person, by phone and email,
  • responding to emergency and non-emergency public works and parks inquiries;
  • dispatching public works crews using telephone and VHF radio communications;
  • data entry, filing, preparing and maintaining documents and notices;
  • preparing meeting notes;
  • providing varied clerical support for numerous staff projects; and,
  • performing other related work.

The preferred candidate will possess:

  • pleasant, helpful approach to supporting others; sound knowledge of modern office practices and procedures;
  • the ability to effectively organize work priorities and to perform most duties with minimal supervision;
  • ability to prepare and maintain files, records, and reports of a diverse nature;
  • excellent customer service and communications skills;
  • the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts;  clear, courteous speaking skills;
  • the ability to handle enquiries and relay messages with promptness, tact and accuracy;
  • strong computer skills (i.e. knowledge of MS Office and application software such as Tempest, Docs DM, Maintenance Connection and JD Edwards);
  • enthusiasm for working in a small, close-knit team proven initiative, attention to detail and the ability to process assignments with accuracy and speed are also required;
  • a valid class 5 driver’s license for the province of BC

The successful candidate has completed supplementary commercial courses, word processing, typing and personal computer courses, plus sound related experience, preferably in a municipal engineering or public works department; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience with VHF radio communications and the ability to read and interpret technical maps and drawings would be considered an asset.  

The successful candidate is required to supply a police information check and a copy of their credentials.

Position Status:
WVMEA (Union) – Permanent, Full-Time

Hours of Work:
35 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)

Starting Rate of Pay:
$31.64 per hour
(This position has a pay structure with five steps which increase annually)
