38,040.00 – 55,000.00, Salary

Work Schedule: M / F, 8:00am to 5:00pm, nights and weekends as needed.

Job Summary

The Communication Specialist is responsible for the following items:  Coordinate, plan, write and create engaging content for social media channels. Write news releases utilizing AP style. Assist OSU departments with outreach activities related to OSU Global and OSU’s global mission. Maintain the OSU Global website using OMNI. 

This position does require some evening and weekend hours during special programs and events. 

Ability to lift 20 lbs.

Position Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.

Demonstrated experience in marketing and communications, including, but not limited to social media, video, web, writing, editing and content creation. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in Adobe CS for PC platform as well as working knowledge in production. Must have a strong working grasp of current strategic communications and marketing, including public relations, social media, event coordination, content creation, writing, and campaign management, among other communications skills.

Must be able to write in an AP style suitable for the publication audience and purpose, including marketing/advertising copy, news stories, feature stories, and research-related stories that communicate the message of OSU Global and Oklahoma State University’s global engagement.

Commitment to excellence in service of students, staff, faculty and guests of diverse cultural backgrounds. Strong professional communications skills (spoken, written and presentational). Strong problem-solving skills. Strong planning and organizational skills. Ability to multitask with strong attention to detail. Proficient use of Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office products.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in marketing, event planning, communications, or international marketing.

Four or more years of experience in a related position. Experience working in an academic setting. Knowledge of global affairs and international education is highly preferred. Experience working or studying abroad. Proficiency in English. Excellent oral and written communication skills.  

Understanding of various cultural preferences and requirements. Experience marketing events or academic programs. Experience with Hootsuite or other social media scheduling services. Extensive knowledge and experience with Adobe Creative Suite software. Experience tracking social media data and other analytics.
