Position Overview

We are currently seeking a visionary Research Director to join our dynamic team and spearhead our research initiatives. As the Research Director, you will play a pivotal role in shaping HJS’s strategic direction while overseeing our research efforts. This role offers a unique opportunity for individuals with a passion for public policy to lead impactful projects and contribute to shaping the global discourse. 

Responsibilities

As the Research Director, your responsibilities will include:

  • Conceptualizing, planning, and executing research programs and special projects.
  • Developing existing projects and creating new ones to enhance HJS’s output.
  • Managing research staff, fostering their development, and ensuring timely project delivery.
  • Peer reviewing, proofreading, and editing research output.
  • Generating revenue streams from research content and securing grants.
  • Representing HJS internally and externally, promoting our work and values.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across departments to maximize impact and outreach.

Person Specification:

  • Significant experience in SME environment
  • Strong communication skills with experience in conveying complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Expertise in at least one area of HJS research or related field.
  • Demonstrated team management experience and fundraising success.
  • Post-graduate degree in international relations, politics, economics, or related disciplines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools and project management.
  • Sympathy with our core values of integrity, collaboration, rigour, civility, and originality.

Desirable Skills:

  • PhD or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in quantitative analysis or data interpretation.
  • Proficiency in regional languages such as Arabic, Russian, or Mandarin.
  • Understanding of public, international, or counter-terrorism law.
  • Previous engagement with policymakers.

Salary:

Competitive salary ranging from £60,000 to £70,000 dependent on experience and qualifications.
