We are seeking an experienced technical writer from the energy industry for our client. The writer’s core responsibilities will include attending ISO/RTO meetings and crafting written reports to be shared with customers to empower them to understand potential rule changes and impacts on their interests. 

The writer will be responsible for attending (virtually) a pre-defined list of RTO stakeholder meetings and providing a written report of that meeting (report template will be provided). The writer should be prepared to attend these virtual meetings, which can sometimes run for 8 hours in one day, and then disseminate the report within 3 – 5 business days, so the team can update with specific analyses. The writer should be prepared to understand complex technical energy industry topics/discussions and be able to succinctly summarize the report. Each RTO/ISO has a variety of groups and subcommittees that focus on specific areas within the RTO and typically meet once or twice a month, depending on the group/subcommittee. Based on which group is meeting, there may be discussions on emerging items, stakeholder feedback, proposed rule changes, and new mechanisms/technology. In an average 20-hour work week, a writer could expect to attend two 8-hour meetings, with 4 hours to write both reports.

This is a contract position for 20 hours per week for 6 months. 

Objectives of this Role 

• Provide thorough updates on the happenings of seven different ISO/RTOs, including the Electric Reliability Council of Texas.
• Empower other team members with the information they need to add client-specific analysis in a timely manner.
• Write professionally while also conveying the information in a straightforward and simple manner, highlighting key takeaways, important deadlines, and other time-sensitive items.

Responsibilities

• Attend (virtually) the RTO meetings (scheduled well in advance), live when possible, or watch recorded meetings. 
• Provide a comprehensive report within a set, templated format that identifies and explains all updates and key takeaways from the meeting. 
• Proofread and edit content reports to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency in messaging.
• Collaborate with the internal team to clarify follow-up questions.
• Attend virtual internal meetings with other team members as needed. 
• Meet deadlines consistently and effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Communicate virtually throughout the week.

Skills and qualifications

• Relevant Experience: Because of the highly technical nature of meeting proceedings, we seek a candidate with relevant experience working and writing within one or more of the following areas of focus: Energy and/or regulatory policy, Wholesale energy markets, Regional Transmission organizations, Interconnection, Energy Transmission
• Excellent Writing Skills: The energy industry and its rules are very complex and full of jargon and acronyms. We are seeking support from a writer who can distill this information into succinct, easily digestible summaries for our clients. Above all, we value simple, straightforward, and concise deliverables for our clients.
• Scheduling Flexibility: While the writer doesn’t need to be in a specific time zone, we need support for markets in the central, mountain and eastern time zones.
• Research Proficiency: Strong research skills, with the capability to distill complex concepts into clear, informational writing, and a willingness to stay up to date on new regulation proceedings.
