Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Secondary School diploma
Experience: Candidates should have experience working as a Facility Operator, including experience providing technical and hands-on expertise in arenas and pools

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should hold and provide a copy of a valid Ontario Driver’s License Class G, as depending on the location, there may be a need to operate City vehicles
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to operate an ice resurface, edger, and various power and hand tools
  • The candidates should possess the ability to prioritize, multitask, and work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • The candidates should be physically capable of carrying out the essential duties of the job

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience planning facility projects and completing them on time
  • The candidates should possess CIT (Certified Ice Technician) certification, including Ice Making and Equipment Operation, Ice Making and Painting Technologies, and Legal Awareness I
  • The candidates should be knowledgeable in working with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), Building Automation Systems (BAS), and Work Order Systems (Work and Service Order Requests)
  • The candidates should have professional experience in custodial/janitorial work and facility maintenance
  • The candidates should possess valid CPR and First Aid Certification or be willing to obtain them within the first six months of employment
  • The candidates should hold a current CPO (Certified Pool Operator) certification and should hold a “B” (Refrigeration Operator Class B) ticket required to work at “registered plant facilities” deemed by the Province of Ontario

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assist the Supervisor of Operations in developing and monitoring the annual work plan for operations and future capital projects, as well as leading facility projects such as ice installation and removal, pool shutdowns, and start-ups
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate effectively with a team of facility operators, performing maintenance duties including general cleaning, floor refinishing, room set-ups, and waste collection
  • The candidates should be able to create duties and provide training for part-time operations staff and volunteer workers, ensuring they understand their responsibilities and perform tasks effectively
  • The candidates should be able to generate and assign preventative maintenance work orders for various mechanical systems, including HVAC, boilers, pool filtration, and arena refrigeration equipment, to ensure proper maintenance and functionality
  • The candidates should be able to maintain ice surfaces, perform plant readings, operate and maintain ice resurfacer machines, manage pool filtration systems, conduct water chemistry tests, add chemicals as needed, and troubleshoot pool issues
  • The candidates should be able to organize and lead minor maintenance repairs, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry tasks, to address facility issues and ensure safe and functional operations
  • The candidates should be able to support the Supervisor of Operations by flagging and reporting any major repairs that require a higher level of service or tradesperson, or external vendor assistance, to address significant facility issues promptly
