Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a hospital-based or other recognized paramedical or emergency medical technology program
Experience: Candidates should have recent experience providing pre-hospital emergency and non-emergency medical treatment and transportation
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be willing to travel and comfortable wearing a uniform
- The candidates should be prepared for physical effort, hazards, and discomfort as specified within the job description, including exposure to high-stress situations, sensitive situations, verbally and physically aggressive behavior
- The candidates should be capable of working in awkward positions indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
- The candidates should be able to lift and transfer patients with assistance, with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to exhibit tact and diplomacy
- The candidates should advocate for patients and possess a class 4 Yukon driver’s license (or equivalent)
- The candidates should be able to work effectively both independently and in a team environment and have conflict management skills
- The candidates should have experience collaborating with allied agencies such as Police, Fire, and Health Care Professionals
- The candidates should hold a valid PCP license from a paramedic governing body in Canada without conditions or restrictions. (A COPR certificate will be considered as equivalent at the time of hire, but the candidate will have one year to obtain a license in the southern jurisdiction)
- The candidates should undergo medical clearance and undergo an RCMP check with a vulnerable sector check
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to employ professional Primary Care Life Support skills to provide pre-hospital emergency and non-emergency medical treatment to the Whitehorse population
- The candidates should be able to assess patient condition in order to formulate a treatment plan and initiate emergency interventions and non-emergency care to provide optimal patient wellbeing
- The candidates should be able to carry out this work in environments where there is limited medical support
