Under general supervision, the
incumbent will be responsible for JHBC events, communications, and marketing including the development, implementation, oversight and
coordination of student-focused and externally oriented programs and activities, and external in coordination with JHBC departments and
centers and other CSUSB units.

Communications & Marketing

  • Collaborates with the Dean and the CSUSB Strategic
    Communications to implement the College’s marketing communications plan by utilizing analysis and selection of pertinent facts to integrate
    them into communication vehicles. Manage the College’s overall brand, including visual components and messaging.
  • Utilize ingenuity
    to collaborate with college members to develop key messages in support of the College’s strategic goals and initiatives which will target
    various internal and external stakeholders (including donors and alumni).
  • Establish and maintain positive and professional
    relationships with University members, outside agencies, and constituents. Serve as the college’s liaison for standard information and
    communications contact, including but not limited to local, regional, and national media outlets.
  • Maintain the JHBC website and
    social media accounts by keeping abreast of campus events and subject matter expertise in relation to current events to identify and
    capitalize on media opportunities. Coordinate with departments, school, centers, and office websites within the college to ensure they are
    following the College’s brand.
  • Provide lead work direction to student assistants who will help with marketing and communication
    efforts.
  • Draft and coordinate journalistic writing, editing, and/or production of materials for college and departments (e.g.,
    monthly digital newsletter, print and digital magazine, videos, website, digital signage, press releases, fact sheets, ads, brochures,
    etc.).
  • Assist in organizing and promoting events for schools, departments, centers, and offices.
  • Create and coordinate
    college, school, department, center and office events calendar.

Event Planning & Operations

  • Plan and arrange all functions
    related to the creation and execution of college events.
  • Major events currently include: JHBC ShEconomy, JHBC Student Scholarship
    Celebration/Awards, Graduate/MBA Brunch, JHBC Career Fair, JHBC Tabling at Homecoming, etc.

Budget:

  • Collaborate with the
    College Budget Analyst to determine appropriate budget expenditures relative to the implementation of marketing/promotion and communication
    plans.
  • Other classification related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and
Experience

  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of related professional or technical
    experience required.

Required Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of and ability to apply standard theories,
    practices, principles and techniques related to communications in the public affairs, media, and marketing.
  • Thorough knowledge of
    and ability to use effectively media outlets including planning media coverage and media publicity campaigns for the JHBC and events.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize events
  • Demonstrated ability to keep abreast of subject matter expertise in relation
    to current events to identify and capitalize on media opportunities that will promote the JHBC and increase positive media coverage.
  • Working knowledge of copyright and other applicable laws pertaining to publications and the media.
  • Thorough knowledge of web
    communication techniques, vehicles and formats. Ability to effectively use web technology to achieve communication goals.
  • Ability
    to analyze and select pertinent facts and integrate them into communication vehicles.
  • Strong story development and journalistic
    writing skills, as well as advanced editorial skills. Knowledge of interview techniques and the ability to define and deliver media
    messages.
  • Working knowledge of marketing and research techniques and methods. Ability to apply market research to identify
    communication needs and target audiences.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including strong public speaking, listening and
    interpretive skills.
  • Ability to provide lead work direction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s
    Degree in related field preferred.
  • 4+ years of increasing responsibility of related student services program activities and
    operational oversight.
  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the social sciences, public or
    business administration or a job-related field.
  • An MBA or related graduate degree can be substituted for two years of professional
    experience.

Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,127 – $5,962 per
month

Classification Salary Range: $3,949 – $7,143 per month

The salary offered will take into account internal equity and
experience among other factors.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision
plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year.

Position Information:

Work status: Full-time/Exempt/Temporary (up to one year
with the possibility of further renewal)

Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm), some
evenings/weekends.

Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am – 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.

Background Check

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records
check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals
disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily
complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the
position.
