Term Full‐Time Position 2 Year
 
The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) is inviting applications for a temporary full time, benefitted Planner 2 position.

Reporting to the Planning Manager, the Planner 2 is responsible for providing information and making recommendations on land use policy, development and other planning initiatives to the RDCK Board & its various committees and commissions, staff, other government agencies, and the public. This position’s primary responsibility is focused on planning policy review at a regional and community level, as it pertains to land use within the RDCK.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor degree from a recognized university in planning, geography or other related subject
  • Four years experience in a planner role, preferably with local government
  • Membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners or eligibility to attain
  • Previous experience using GIS, property and/or land use management databases
  • Valid BC Drivers License and a satisfactory Drivers Abstract
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of planning principals and practices as they pertain to regional and rural land use and development
  • Knowledge of the principals, methodologies and practices of research and data collection
  • Demonstrated organization skills to manage short and long term projects and effectively manage time
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply federal, provincial and municipal legislation, regulation, policies and guidelines as they relate to planning and job responsibilities
  • Demonstrated customer service skills with the ability to deal with stakeholders using tact and diplomacy
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of community objectives
  • Ability to work independently and with a collaborative team environment

This is a full‐time term position of 35 hours per week and offers a comprehensive benefits package including paid vacation time, extended health and dental coverage and a generous pension plan. The normal hourly rate is $46.06 but ranges between $44.06 ‐ $50.06 per hour, dependent on experience.
